Part-Time Technologist Assistant

Hours: 24 hours per week

Saturday and Sunday: 08:00am to 4:30pm

Tuesday and Wednesday: 7:00am to 11:00am

Position Summary:

Provides general assistance and directs flow for patients, radiologists and technologists. Brings patients from lobby to scanning areas, provides pre- and post procedure screening and explanation to patient and family (if applicable), assists technologists with positioning patient for exams and procedures, reviews and assists with the verification of exam orders and orders in RIS, PACS, etc. For MRI department: safely transports patients to and from Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center to the MRI department and back.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves and escorts patients from the lobby, and/or safely transports patients from the hospital, to the scanning areas. Verifies patient identification by asking patient, or family member if applicable, complete name, date of birth, reason for examination/procedure and area to be examined. For patients from the hospital, also verifies information on the patient’s identification bracelet.
  • Provides pre / post procedure screening, education and reassurance to patients including but not limited to: screening the patient for safety and medical needs prior to examination, explaining the procedure and the expected length of the exam/procedure, assistant with positioning the patient, etc.
  • Practices sterile and isolation techniques resulting in the prevention of cross-contamination and infection.
  • Assists technologists with the verification of orders for future scheduled exams. Follows-up on orders missing, incomplete or those with any questions.
  • Assists radiologists with various communications with referring physicians and their staff, coordinates the communications of “Wet Readings” and significant findings, and manages incoming calls for the radiologists.
  • Processes requests for images and reports. Prints films and/or CDs when necessary. Manages film retrieval and imaging requests for comparison purposes.
  • Interacts and communicates in a manner to reflect an understanding of the patient’s age, culture, state of health, and level of comprehension.
  • Maintains efficient and timely patient flow, attempts to stay on schedule. Communicates any delays or changes in the schedule to appropriate staff, nursing staff for the hospital patients, or the receptionists and/or patients waiting in the lobby for exams.
  • Assists technologists and physicians in preparing for the procedure/exam and clean up between patient exams. Maintains cleanliness and disinfects equipment, supplies and rooms as needed.
  • Stocks supplies and clean linens as needed. Removes soiled linens and places in the proper location as needed.
  • Delivers reports, CDs, laboratory/pathology specimens to various physician offices, laboratories and hospital departments as needed.
  • Maintains a high quality of patient care and communicates in a positive and timely manner with co-workers, physicians, patients, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Perform other job related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within prescribed exam times.
  • Computer skills/proficiencies, preferably with a RIS (Radiology Information System).
  • Must possess the understanding of the functionality of medical office operations, including computer literacy/competency, medical terminology, desired patient through-put while providing optimal patient care and consideration for patient’s circumstances, preferably in outpatient radiology.
  • Ability to perform the identified essential functions of the position including the operation of any equipment associated with performing the essential functions.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to him/herself, others or property.
  • Complies with all applicable policies, rules and regulations as outlined by SDI, State and Federal regulations including compliance with HIPAA privacy and security.

Education

Work Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience in medical field, Radiology preferred.
  • Computer experience, RIS (Radiology Information System), PACS experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for 7 to 8 hours, daily.
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous during face-to-face contact with patients and doctors.
  • Ability to periodically bend, stoop or reach to organize and obtain objects. Ability to help with moving patients from gurney or wheelchair to scanning table, and to position patients.
  • Ability to distinguish telephone ring and caller’s voice, hear and speak over a telephone and in person.
  • Ability to speak clearly and be comprehensible.
  • Ability to push a wheel chair or gurney/bed.
  • Ability to keyboard and type accurately.

Full-Time Patient Account Specialist I-Payment Data Entry

Position Summary:

The Patient Account Specialist Payment Data Entry is part of the billing team. They are responsible for accurately posting payments in the billing system, via Electronic Remittance Advice or by means of a paper document.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pre-processing and entry of all payments.
  • Process refunds/credit balances.
  • Make adjustments and add payer comments as indicated on EOB and copy EOB’s, as necessary, for filing secondary claims.
  • Rotate phone responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Document patient calls clearly.
  • Update patient insurance information and prepare accounts for insurance billing.
  • Assist the Customer Service team with the following as directed by the Supervisor:
  • Print and separate claim forms daily.
  • Pull reports and/or explanation of benefits, as required, for claim processing.
  • Share responsibility of effectively handling correspondence and mail returns.
  • Share responsibility of effectively distributing correspondence to the Follow Up team.
  • Share responsibility of effectively processing subpoenas.
  • Assist the Billing department with general duties as directed by the Supervisor. General duties include but are not limited to: data entry, payment entry, phone coverage, follow-up, document imaging, etc.
  • Perform other job related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

  • Must possess ability to balance/reconcile large payment batches without assistance.
  • Must possess ability to use tools to apply contractual adjustments as agreed to by payer contracts, i.e. spot gross errors.
  • Must possess job appropriate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems
  • Must possess medical billing knowledge (HMO, PPO, Workers’ Compensation, Medi-Cal, Medicare).
  • Must possess a strong understanding of eligibility requirements and process to obtain required authorization.
  • General office experience with telephone communication.
  • Ability to file in both Alpha and Numeric filing systems.
  • Ability to perform the identified essential functions of the position including the operation of any equipment and software associated with performing the essential functions.

Data Analyst I -San Diego

Position Summary:

Responsible for producing various financial reports to be used by management and for analyzing data related to revenue streams, cost center expenses and the overall business. The position reports to the Vice President of Finance and Business Operations and works closely with the Director of Billing and Director of Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use statistical methods to interpret/analyze data and generate useful business reports.
  • Work with management team to create a prioritized list of needs for each business segment.
  • Perform daily, weekly or monthly analysis and present findings along with areas where you identify room for improvement.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Use data to create models that depict trends in the patient base and the patient population as a whole.
  • Maintaining database operations and teaching other employees how to use database applications and tools.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain database/data systems.
  • Identify and recommend new ways to save money by streamlining business processes.
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide oversight of internal business rules for data mining.
  • Analyze and trend plan data.
  • Oversee ad-hoc and operational reports.
  • Perform quality assurance functions as they relate to reporting and data validations.
  • Analyze and interpret plan data for business and operational initiatives.
  • Identify short and long-term business strategies through analytics.
  • Monitor critical plan key performance indicators.
  • Research data anomalies and engage business and operational stakeholders to develop solutions.

Full Time Patient Account Specialist II-Follow Up- San Diego

Position Summary:

The Patient Account Specialist Follow Up is part of the billing team.  They are responsible for the collection of outstanding medical claims from a variety of sources; insurance carriers, IPA’s, patients, research or transplant office and/or other payment sources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle daily correspondence related to assigned claims.
  • Actively work all accounts assigned to collector queues to maximize collections. This includes but is not limited to; searching for lacking insurance information, rebilling claims to insurance carriers, billing patients, filing appeals, provider disputes, DMHC complaints and calling patients.
  • Maintain the standard productivity levels set by the department; average 100 to 140 accounts per day.
  • Communicate unfavorable reimbursements trends to management.
  • Assist with sending delinquent accounts to a Collection Agency as directed by management.
  • Assist the Billing department with general duties as directed by the Supervisor. General duties include but are not limited to: data entry, payment entry, phone coverage, document imaging, etc.
  • Other job related duties, as assigned.

  • Must possess job appropriate written and verbal communication skills.
