Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) creates highly detailed, cross-sectional images of the brain and spinal cord.  Depending upon the specific patient history and indications for the MRI exam to be performed, certain studies may have MRI contrast dye (gadolinium) injected into the patient’s veins to provide better definition of soft tissues and blood vessels and thus enhance the images.
